The Importance of Round Ligaments
What are the round ligaments and why are they important?
The round ligaments hold the uterus up in the front of the belly to keep it balanced and centered & also allow for expansion throughout pregnancy as the baby grows.
When there is rotation and decreased motion in the pelvis & sacrum (tailbone) it can lead to torsion throughout these soft tissues and the uterus. Since the baby is growing within and will eventually exit the uterus, this can lead to restriction, tension, and increase the likelihood of a difficult birth.
Prenatal chiropractic adjustments focus on improving the function and stability of the sacrum and pelvis and releasing the tension that builds up in the connective tissue and muscle fibers of the round ligaments.
The prenatal chiropractic analysis and adjustments performed on expecting mothers is well-known as the Webster Technique. All of the doctors at Pure Light are certified in the Webster Technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment for pregnant mothers that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances pelvic muscles and ligaments. This adjustment optimizes uterine function and allows for a safer, easier birth for mom and baby. It is a gentle method of adjusting a mother’s pelvis in order to reduce uterine constraint and allow the baby to move freely into the best position possible for birth.
Simply stated, a balanced pelvis and optimally positioned baby make for an easier labor and delivery. Well-informed birth professionals love to hear that their moms are receiving Webster Technique because it significantly reduces complications and labor time.
