We often talk about the importance of chiropractic care for newborns due to the intense nature of birth and the implications of birth trauma. Have you ever considered that a baby can also experience physical, chemical, and emotional stress in utero?
A common reason why a baby may have experienced physical stress in utero is if they “drop” early. Babies “drop” or descend further into the pelvis 2-4 weeks before delivery. This is called “lightening.”When it happens early, the baby’s head can be held in the pelvis while the rest of the body jostles around with the mother’s movements.
These babies are often born with what we consider teeny tiny whiplashes and many are seen to have torticollis and plagiocephay — tilt & turn of their head and abnormal head shape — The muscles of the neck become so spasmed, reactive, and protective, it is hard for the baby to move their jaw, coordinate their latch and suckling, or just be at ease.
Gentle, specific and nurturing chiropractic adjustments for newborns allows them to unwind their internal stress, nurse and digest with more ease and better adapt to their new world.
Whether your baby dropped early, was not positioned optimally, experienced a very long or very fast labor, or experienced a birth trauma — we can help.
